About Sofía

We are a proudly Latin American startup, but because we want to reach the whole world we share most of our internal communication and knowledge in English. This is why this section will not be in Spanish, although we love both languages.

About Sofía

At Sofia we want to change the way millions of people take care of their health by offering a health plan that is more complete, simpler to understand and closer to anyone who wants to live a healthier life. We want to build a thriving community that deeply changes the way the health system works.

About the role

As a Backend Developer you will work closely with product managers, designers, business experts, and other engineers, to create systems that impact directly or indirectly the way people take care of their health.

What you'll do

  • Evolve our Django Data Model to be able to handle the ever-changing needs that we identify from our users (Soci@s, Doctors, Business Administrators, Sofía Admins).
  • Create and maintain the backend business logic that allows us to increase the scope of our digital services.
  • Integrate with external services and APIs to enhance our different products.
  • Develop GraphQL queries and mutations that ensure a seamless frontend-backend communication.
  • Collaborate with frontend teams to define requirements for queries and mutations, explaining the ‘why’ and ‘how’ to ensure alignment.
  • Engage with stakeholders from all around Sofía to gather insights, translating their needs into technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and ensure the scalability of applications.
  • Emphasize quality by implementing robust testing and debugging practices.
  • Maintain high-quality, simple, scalable, and maintainable code.
  • Keep the codebase updated with the latest languages and libraries.
  • Propose new technologies and ideas to innovate and expand Sofia’s product offerings.

What we're looking for

  • Extraordinary analytic and synthesis skills. We solve hard problems every day that go beyond coding. You will enjoy Sofía if you are an authentic problem solver, that likes to think of solutions from first principles.
  • Extremely motivated. You are passionate about what you do, you don't wait for someone to tell you what to do, you seek ways to add more value, you raise the bar in terms of quality and speed, and you love to constantly learn and grow.
  • Great collaborators. You are someone that enjoys working with others, are a great communicator, and understand that, together, a team can go much further.
  • Backend or full-stack technical expertise. Ideally, you have a few years (3+) of experience developing backend applications that deal with data models, APIs, and complex business logic.

Nice to have.

We believe that great engineers do not restrict themselves to a single stack, but it would certainly help if you have some familiarity or even better, are an expert, in the technologies that we're using:

  • Heroku/AWS
  • Postgres
  • Python (Django).
  • GraphQL (Graphene).
